Lemnos & Gallipoli Revealed: A Pictorial History of Anzacs in the Aegean 1915-16

Hardback

Jim Claven’s Lemnos & Gallipoli Revealed: A Pictorial History of Anzacs in the Aegean 1915-16 tells the story of the northern Aegean island of Lemnos and its part in Australia’s Anzac story and the Gallipoli campaign. Drawing on extensive archival research, the book features reproductions of over 300 many never before published photographs taken by the Anzacs themselves during the Gallipoli campaign, all informed by the authors field research on Lemnos. The author not only tells the story of the Island’s function as the advanced base for the campaign – with ships anchored in Mudros Bay, its great rest camps, supply bases and field medical facilities – but also the interaction of these young Australians and the local islanders, the first meeting of Greeks and Australians in Greece. Never before has the role of Lemnos and Greece in the Gallipoli campaign been told in such a comprehensive way. The book is published by Melbourne’s Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee, complementing their Lemnos Gallipoli Memorial at Lemnos Square, Albert Park. Price: $50
